BIOGRAPHY

                               

David Stansfield was born in Liverpool in the United Kingdom. His early work career involved being a full-time singer in a band, artist manager, blues club organiser and major concert promoter. In 1971 his band Moonkyte recorded and released the acid-folk cult classic LP 'Count Me Out' (which was officially re- released on CD by Sunbeam Records in the autumn of 2005). Later he worked as a youth organiser for Oxfam where he quickly became Deputy Editor for the organisation's national youth magazine 'Bother'. He then went on to be a  community worker in Leeds before being appointed Lecturer in Community Education at Bradford College. Based at Fairfax Community School he developed innovative English courses for Asian Men, worked closely with East Bowling History Workshop which produced a variety of books plus supporting a number of tenants and community groups. David was seconded to Keighley College for a year so that he could develop work with Asian men in that town. He also taught Adult Literacy classes. 

 David gained an Honours degree in Peace Studies at the School Of Peace Studies, Bradford University, United Kingdom. Whilst there he was instrumental in setting up Bradford CAITS (Centre For Alternative Industrial & Technological Systems), an organisation that worked closely with national and local trades unions in an attempt to develop socially useful products instead of redundancy. He worked closely on a disabled feeding device, a project engineered by a Lucas Aeropspace worker from a fin from a missile! David's work on this project involved research at Pindefield's Hospital, Wakefield which specialises in brain injuries. He was also a member of Bradford's Community Relation Council undertaking research into the needs of local Asian youth.   

In 1985 David and his wife Chris (a teacher) moved to Italy where he became a journalist working for international magazines including Billboard, Hollywood Reporter, Rockstar, Eye On Italy, The Guardian, Broadcast magazine, Record Mirror and Film Review. He was also a correspondent for the prime time BBC TV series 'Saturday Night Clive' hosted by Clive James and for the 'East Of Edam' and 'Euroquest' programmes aired worldwide by Radio Netherlands. While working for Billboard David won two prestigious international awards for his writing on cultural and ethnic issues. Some of his work was purchased for inclusion in text books for American students.

 Whilst in Italy David also wrote English language lyrics for Italian major artists Amedeo Minghi and DJ Panda. Both songs were hits throughout Continental Europe.

David and Chris returned to the UK in 1993 where David worked in London for the Financial Times magazine Music & Copyright, Music Business International and Music and Media. He was also appointed Head of International Music at London's Spectrum Radio station. He worked as a lyric writer and along with Nawazish Ali Khan (cousin of Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan) wrote a song for Asian starlet Amar that was instrumental in Warner's signing her to its label. 

They returned to the North of England in 1997 . Since than he  has written lyrics for Italian artist Nair. One song 'Shine On Now You Are A Star' went to number 1 in the Italian TV Advert charts last year after it was snapped up by the womens product firm Lines Idea. Shine On..and My Man (lyrics by David) both appear on Nair's album Sunrise which charted throughout Asia after being licensed to JVC in Japan.  You can hear 'Shine On...'and 'My Man' on Nair's website My Man was later released as a single in Italy in 2007.http://www.nair.it

 He has also written press biographies for artists including Skip 'Little Axe' McDonald and Sam Payne.

David now co-ordinates/"tutors"  the Fresh Start Writers group in Barton. Fresh Start is an organisation for the over 50s' in North Lincolnshire.   

The Amazing Adventures Of Boogie One Shoe And Munch The Mouse,  the first in a series of adventure stories for children, written by David, was published by PublishAmerica in 2006.

In 2007 he co-edited and contributed to 'Tell Me Once More' an anthology of short stories and poems for children. This was written by the members of the Brigg Fresh Start Writers with the involvement of children from Wrawby Primary School   

He is currently writing two new childrens book 'Raku & The Boy and Cuthbert's Capers.

David now concentrates on writing for children and adults; and music.
